Last Missing Lake Tahoe Skier Found Deceased After Avalanche

The ninth and last missing skier was discovered dead five days after a significant avalanche hit the backcountry of Lake Tahoe, California, officials announced on Saturday. The Nevada County Sheriff's office confirmed the names of the deceased, including six friends and three guides, at a news conference led by Sheriff Shannan Moon. The avalanche, one of the deadliest in Californian history, posed severe risks to rescuers due to ongoing avalanches and high winds. Following the restrictions posed by harsh weather conditions, authorities successfully deployed helicopters on Friday to mitigate risks by dropping water over the avalanche-prone area. Sheriff Moon praised the collaborative rescue efforts and noted that two survivors might provide crucial insights into the circumstances surrounding the event. The victims, all identified, were reportedly on their way back from a three-day guided ski trip in the Sierra Nevada when engulfed by a football-field-sized avalanche, delivering eight feet of snow and 90 mph winds. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the potential criminal negligence implications.
