TL;DR
Wikipedia has decided to blacklist Archive.today following issues with the site directing DDoS attacks and altering archived content. Over 695,000 archive links will be systematically removed or replaced.
The English-language edition of Wikipedia has blacklisted the archive site Archive.today after it was found to direct DDoS attacks and alter web page snapshots by inserting targeted information. In response, Wikipedia has initiated the removal of all links directing to this archive site, which amounts to more than 695,000 links across 400,000 Wikipedia pages. The decision arose out of concerns regarding the reliability and ethical conduct of Archive.today. Alternative archiving solutions like the Internet Archive are recommended for future use.
