TL;DR
Dewar's has introduced a robotic dog fitted with an ethanol sensor to detect leaky whisky barrels in its warehouses. The technology aims to address the issue of evaporation loss, helping to preserve the quality and quantity of the whisky.
In an innovative move, Dewar’s has deployed a Boston Dynamics robot dog named Royal Barkla to sniff out ethanol vapor from leaky whisky barrels in their warehouses. Equipped with a specially designed ethanol-sensing arm, the robot can identify barrels that are leaking more than the expected 'angel's share' of whisky. Despite its initial success, Royal Barkla faces limitations, such as not being able to check higher stacked barrels. Plans for a drone or spider robot to supplement its efforts are underway.
